I would like to add to the discussion those one:
  - Session
  - Threema
  - KeyBase
  - Wire
  - Antidote

I personally used all of them, signal and telegram included.
I had a good experience specially with WIre, Session, and Antidote(Tox chat) but i don't exclude the others.
The all have pros and cons and i think only safer option should be to use the ones with tox integrated.

Let me know what you think.
