I have Njalla and Mullvad recently. They're both great. Mullvad is multi-country though which is useful.

rule of thumbs is if you see people talking about it in podcast or mastodon posts just avoid it. most of them are passive surveillance tool. on my side i use my own proxy. you go out in library or restaurant hide your hardware and you can connect to public wifi without even leaving your trailer

I really like Mullvad and their system where you can pay in cash with the token that is given to you at the beginning, which avoids giving all your personal information. But for everyday life, I'm more on proton, it's not the safest, but for the basic and legal use I have of it I find that it does the job.
