What messaging app do you think is the best when it comes to privacy and security.



Telegram: Popular with a user-friendly interface, but standard chats aren't end-to-end encrypted by default. Secret Chats are encrypted, but some experts question Telegram's proprietary encryption protocol for long-term privacy.

qTox: Fully decentralized with strong end-to-end encryption. No central servers make it very secure, but it’s less user-friendly and lacks widespread adoption.

Session: Uses decentralized onion routing for anonymous communication. Offers strong privacy without needing a phone number, but the app can be slower due to decentralized nature.

Signal: Considered a gold standard for privacy, with strong end-to-end encryption. Open-source and widely trusted, but requires a phone number for registration, which may be a privacy concern for some.

I would suggest to use session there is only one weird thing that i saw on there but its generally the best to use.

When you are entering your password to a brand new computer (Sign In) you'll see all the logs from your previous conversation loading in.
Making session a single point of failure (password) app for your private exchange with other people.
That isn't really a true problem though.

Out of the list you provided I'd definitely go with qTox or Session.
I'm mostly still on telegram though, I don't really talk to anyone or do anything suspicious on it. Just mostly in a couple channels that post cyber security updates, some breach channels to download databases & a couple crypto group chats.
I make a couple sales on it here & there but nothing large scale for me to be concerned about this sort of stuff.
I shouldn't care right?

I would prefer session or signal...you can also give a try on SimpleX which is also open source.

When it comes to privacy and security, I prefer communicating with people through Astral Projection. In this way, no communication can be intercepted.

Telegram obviously logs and works with LEO
Tox is good but most clients are outdated and vulnerable
Session logs including deleted messages across their servers
Signal requires phone #, use a fake + pin and it's the best one on your list

Picked the worst of the bunch.

qTox - is outdated and has a 0 day, use Tonic (if you are saying qTox because thats what most people are familiar with, fair, it is the Tox protocol but the client qTox is dead! Use the Tonic client instead unless you want to be exploited

I like the Tox protocol but it has its cons; I use it, I wouldn't Just use it.

Telegram has gone to the shitter , Officially . Before it was known, but it was lowkey how they played it, now its very in your face. Telegram is dying, officially.. :'(

Session is sketchy as all hell, I will NEVER trust it for anything sensitive. It is highly similar to the Anom phone situation, honeypot but -- I can give argument and logic to persuade one to believe that yes it is sketchy and weird, but I have 0 hard solid evidence y'know.

Signal is maybe okay with a burner+vpn,,, I'm still a bit iffy regarding it.. but it does appear better than telegram.

Now, where were we? Right! The options you MISSED!

MATRIX -- Come on, why wasn't this in the list? It has a few cons, sure, but overall it's fuckin king (in my books*)

SimpleX -- I haven't done much research,, I'm sketched just because it appeared from the "crowd" e.g. it only popped up into the main-stream when the initial migration off tg happened,, generally I don't trust the herd and so I'm iffy but other than some obscurity regarding how their backend server process works (I've done 0% research, hence why I don't know and its obscure to me) -- it seems like a fairly good option.

Literally any of these platforms(excluding telegram maybe) when you PGP encrypt your message for your recipient ---- 10/10.

And finally, my top choice (someone mentioned it already), is XMPP w/ OTR ..

Second top choice is: agreed with @whiteroad, telepathic communication, and/or meeting up in the astral

Telegram is the worst of all, but is popular so just like whatsapp, i'm using it just for friends with fake profile, obviously.
Tox protocol is amazing but there doesn't seem to be any interest in developing it.
So i've been using SimpleX for quite a while for conducting any business.
