so are opium and cocaine but i think its fair to classify those as drugs. i think the issue is just stigmatization of drugs This forum account is currently banned. Coffee isn't a drug per se but the primary alkaloid in it is (i.e caffeine). Or maybe this is being too technical idk. If we become anal about all the specifics we'll start questioning everything. I cannabis a drug or is it THC? Is opium a drug or is it heroin? Perhaps the only reason why we don't consider coffee a drug is like what the other user said, stigma. Coffee appears to be a relatively harmless drug as several documents have shown coffee drinkers live longer than non-drinkers. Can't say the same for many other drugs. Taking pure caffeine does seem to be more risky. There's documented fatal overdoses on people taking pure caffeine.

Coffee and tea both have small amounts of caffeine, but I think sugar is more addictive

Not really. Drugs have -ve impact while coffee (should be taken without sugar) has +ive impact unless you have heart issues.

Well if coffee is considered a drug, because of the caffine, then it was the easiest drug to get rid of. I used to drink so much coffee daily for years, even right before bed, which the caffine had no impact on my sleep whatsoever. One day i decided to cut coffee down to once a day at breakfast and i had no issues doing that. No headaches, no need to drink it, nothing.

I consider coffee to be a strong stimulant, close to being considered a drug. As for people who cut out coffee and don't feel anything, it varies a lot from organism to organism. There are people who don't get hooked on hard drugs, it depends a lot on genetics.
