You can't find out the algorithm of the encryption, there is no consistency in cryptography except if you do have the key while the encryption was done or know which algorithm was used.

Why would you want unnecessary slow downs of encryption of other files in case of ransomware. Total nightmare.
Why would you want to encrypt a file twice, even though the cryptography is unbreakable. Go with AES, ChaCha20 or post more details for help.

The short answer is yes. The slightly longer answer is yes, but it's probably not necessary. If you're using something like public/private key encryption, it's already going to be extremely strong, so it depends what you're going for, and what you're using. But as I said, the short answer is yes.

There's no point at encrypting a file twice, it makes the implementation muddier, slower and more likely to contain errors, and overall has no benefits over using a strong cipher like the ones @N1k7 mentioned.

So let's say we got DES and AES and your secret.
You can first create des = DES(password) or aes = AES(password) as single encryption.
Or double encryption by using both, for example aesdes = AES(DES(password)).

You can double-encrypt using any encryption algorithm, but you usually don't have to as algorithms like AES are usually good enough when encrypting once.
