I would recommend a burr grinder for consistency in the taste. Took me awhile to find one that is low in cost but good, they are out there.

Everyone likes coffee a little bit different so I guess it depend on your preferences.

My best coffee is made with a slow coffee method, using a Chemex or a V60 dripper, using quality beans, not too roasted, more on the blond side. I find Ethiopian beans work the best with that method. If you prefer stronger, less subtle coffee, the mocha pot also is a nice option.

Try to check Lance Hedrick on youtube, his methods is easy to understand and I learned how to brew coffee from him, I'm now into trying latte arts whenever I can get access to an espresso machine.
