i don't love the tesonet allegations around protonvpn (plus their general company stance of "safety over privacy" they discuss in their privacy policy + show in some cases I feel like its only a matter of time). its probably fine but when better alternatives exist why even risk it

The very best in my opinion is mullvad. By far. You don't have an account, you just generate a key and have to put money on it (via crypto, gift card, visa, paypal, even cash). It's faily cheap (5€ per month) and you can always dispose that key and get a new one.
