I've used Mullvad before and I highly recommend it. I self-host a VPN now with OpenVPN and would also recommend but the speed is dependent on your VPS provider.

I personally use Mullvad, alot of others here probably do, it's cheap and did me well, never have I ever been let down by it, and the speed is amazing, I really suggest you use it.

fuck mullvad, never proved anything. use IVPN, and please dont ever think for a second running a vpn will save you if ur doing anything that would put u on a list for the glowies or upper le.

you should use Tor for shit like that and also use a vpn in a specific country that is not within the 14 eyes agreement

if you are a bit of a noobie when it comes to sysadmin, i wouldnt recommend selfhosting either. you have to understand how to properly secure your server and keep it up to date, requires a lot of maintenance, also why openvpn when a modern protocol such as wireguard exists?

I set up basic security on the server. In regards to why I chose OpenVPN over WireGuard, I can't really give a reason. OpenVPN has worked fine for me but I might try WireGuard. Or I might just go back to using a paid VPN. Why IVPN over any other VPN?
