I have the same specifications on my system, and I'm facing the same issue. My host is Windows 11. When I use Windows 11 in VMware, it runs smoothly, but when I use Kali Linux, it lags.

Similarly, when I use Kali Linux in VirtualBox, it runs smoothly, but when I use Windows 11, it lags.

Despite having such a powerful system, I still have to deal with this problem. I don't know what the solution is. Someone please tell me the solution.

VirtualBox used to be fuckawful, but with VMWare, you can at least get a free personal use license, which is very handy, as it's the best VM software going...

I have a 12 core system and I run my Mint VM on VMWare with 4 cores at above normal priority, before that I was running it at 6 cores on normal priority and for some reason it would freeze up for a minute or two every once in awhile. Honestly I don't know if it's just VMWare or... but so far it's good. I don't like how VMware was bought and now the whole make an account and find it in the giant list of products thing you have to go through just to download it and then it has an update and instead of just updating itself it says "skip this update" or "learn more" and learn more brings you to the website blah blah blah. VMWare definitely has a more corporate oriented goal, now even more than ever, and they made free personal use a lot more of a process compared to VirtualBox which is super simple.

Anyways, I can't remember why I left VirtualBox but I just know it was giving me shit when I was trying to make a lab environment. Also not being able to seperate VMs into folders on the home page was kinda annoying because I like organization. You probably can and I'd be surprised if it was anything more complicated than just grouping them into actual folders in the filesystem or something, but ontop of the other thing it was just like "ok fuck this VMWare looks nicer anyways."

Hopefully I'll set up an actual homelab soon and be able to run Proxmox on a dedicated virtualization server, but in the mean time I might try out Hyper-V and see how that compares to VirtualBox and VMWare.

VMWare. Free (recently), easiest to use and just works!
