Some of Telegram's advantages are its focus on privacy, security, and giving users control over their data and experience. These could differentiate it from platforms like Facebook that have faced controversies around issues like data privacy and algorithmic feeds.

I don't want boomers to start using Telegram even though i already seen some using it...

Yes, Telegram is a very convenient application that is becoming closer to a social network in terms of its capabilities, and this is not surprising, because the creator of Telegram once created a popular Russian social network, so there is potential, but the possibility of repression is not going away

I do not like Telegram simply for the fact that:
- not self-hostable (server code not made public, centralized servers)
- phone number necessary (i am aware of the Fragment / TON network but still)
- ambiguous encryption habits

Viewing it as a social media makes more sense however.

Since the addition of Channels, the Search feature and TG Premium I kinda already saw the platform as a "social media" and less of a "secure communication service". XMPP and SimpleX do the job. Hell even IRC. Of course, it depends on what you use it for.

it already is being used as a social media to a point, i think if they added a bit more channel discovery on it then it would be a bit more widespread

Telegram is centralized. We need a decentralized solution

i think they are trying that. especially, the spec of the "premium" they were plug into the app made telegram like discord ahahaa

- Session [using Tor and the Oxen network]
- XMPP [like email: user on server communicates to other user on other server]
- SimpleX [read the documentation i do not remember how that works]

Telegram is blurring the lines between messaging app and social network. If Telegram prioritizes features like public profiles, newsfeeds, and content creation tools, it could become more social network-like.

It is so much close to being a social network, and I only hope that it doesn't become like other messenger apps. Totally bloated with many features which aren't that necessary at all.

It being a solely messenger app has helped a lot of users, including myself to establish communication in a more smoother manner possible.
