Traditional versus cyber offences

There is some research that suggests that there is overlap between traditional criminality and cyber criminality. Personally, I think there are some methodological issues with this research. I believe that you cannot lump all cyber criminality into one basket. There is a significant difference between cyber dependent and cyber enabled crime. Heck, there is even significant differences among cyber dependent "crimes." For example, I believe that there is a big difference between the hacker who gets access to a system for the sake of learning or testing their skill and the hacker who gets access to a system for the purpose of causing damage or taking something that doesn't belong to them.

What are your thoughts on the differences between cyber crime and traditional forms of offending? Are cyber criminals like traditional criminals or are they different and how so?
