If you've never used Linux before go with something like Ubuntu or Mint. If you wanna go balls deep you can pick something like Arch or Kali. Depends on what you wanna do with it.

Just pick a distro, after you learn more you'll realize they're all kinda the same and you can make any which one work how you need. Just practice doing things with the terminal and navigating without always using a GUI. It's a lot more fun then windows so would definitely recommend This is good advice, much better than what I said. Well put. DM for Doxing / Pentesting Services

I'd go with arch linux an jump right in instead of wasting time on other distros considering arch has any package/app you could ever want in the AUR to easily install so you won't have to build things from source or be stuck with whatever outdated versions distros like ubuntu have in there repo's since it takes them forever to clear the newest packages as stable. I started on ubuntu but arch just made more sense to me after being irritated by debain based distros and if you don't want to go through the manual arch linux install then you can go with one of the arch spinoff's that use a install script to get you started or grab someones custom install script off github to try(make sure to read through it before running it). I personally think arch is a way simpler approach with the rolling release model instead of full upgrades and with the AUR no other distro can compete. It's all linux anyway so might as well get used to the superior distro.

Nothing comes close to the customization and overall control you get over your system. The hardest part is usually the installation but these days Arch comes with its own text-based installer called archinstall that makes the whole process painless. You learn a lot about Linux just by using it and the ego boost you get is pretty nice too. However, if you're somebody who doesn't wanna learn too much about Linux or spend time in the terminal and just want a distro that works and won't break; take a look at Linux Mint, Ubuntu or pretty much any Debian based distros. Those things are probably the most stable Linux distros out there.

Just do it, if you're a beginner install something like Linux Mint or Ubuntu, the two just works, Linux Mint is better if you're a windows user, I recommend trying to use it on a VM first though.

keep your important files in external hard-disk because switching from windows to linux may destroy your files, also i recommend using ubuntu at first.

Except it might cause him huge frustration when he accidentally breaks his system for the 7th time and might even cause him to possibly ditch it. I don't think starting with a rolling release distro is a smart choice
