South Korean Professor Cho Jae-weon has developed a groundbreaking invention that transforms human waste into a valuable resource. His eco-friendly creation, known as BeeVi, is a toilet system designed to convert feces into electricity, providing a sustainable source of power. The innovative technology was conceived at South Korea's Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology.

On average, a person produces nearly 500 grams of waste daily, which can be harnessed by microorganisms to generate 50 liters of methane gas. This gas, in turn, can produce 0.5 kWh of electricity or power a car for a distance of 1.2 kilometers.

Professor Jae-weon has also introduced a digital currency called Ggool, which users can earn by using the BeeVi toilet. On the UNIST campus, students have the opportunity to accumulate up to 10 Ggool per day, which they can exchange for a variety of products, including freshly brewed coffee, instant cup noodles, fruits, and books from the campus stores. This ingenious combination of waste-to-energy technology and digital rewards not only contributes to environmental sustainability but also offers practical benefits to the university community.
