2029
99.9% of content is AI generated
Countries have weaponized media control
Militaries shutdown consumer internet

This is whats predicted in Neal Stephensons book 'The Fall', which is about the end of the american empire.

In another book, he writes about how the really rich people keep all their crypto/money assets in space.

I think its scary and sooner than we think. I cant see a way this doesnt happen.

If you have counterpoints to this, Im all ears.

Yeah, it sounds totally dystopian. But I wouldn’t jump straight to doom. People are resilient and technology’s still shaped by humans—if enough folks push back, things can change. It’s less about some unavoidable fate and more about choices we make now.

I don't know what to make of it. It's dystopian, but it's also pretty easy to imagine...

It seems like it's almost already like this now.
If you told me that a platforms like Reddit is 50% AI powered bots, designed by the US military to push social beliefs, I would believe it.

It will get worse. Already many people are unable to think outside of the thoughts approved by 'experts'.
Next they'll be unable to think without asking AI for their opinion.

We're doomed.

Internet is just a giant bloatware, there will be groups (real people) forming like on this forum and such but I doubt there will be some kind of shutdown.

Logically, the computers get exponentially faster than how defense departments operate. How does that not result in them shutting down amazon, tiktok, fb,yt,ig,tg,wa,etc?

Neal Stephenson is the smartest(read his books), most connected (personal confidant to bill gates and jeff bezos, original sole employee at blue origin which is developing a moonbase.... and he predicts this. Whats your opinion based on? How is your prediction better than neals?

This is the biggest joke of 2025. The internet won't ever shut down.

Services like Amazon, YT and others are moneymakers and they comply with the government.
What the government tell them they will do it.
Everything is business nowdays when it comes to big companies like the ones mentioned, its all about profit.

There will be censorship like we already see today but on a much larger scale.
I'm not saying my prediction is better than Neal's, this is just my opinion based on the information I have since I'm living in a country where censorship didn't hit hard (yet!) and you can still get some information passed without censorship.

Nope it's not already like this now, I think
"If you told me that a platforms like Reddit is 50% AI powered bots, designed by the US military to push social beliefs, I would believe it."
No way, they want, but cant
"It will get worse." than today, yes, certainly
"Already many people are unable to think outside of the thoughts approved by 'experts'." Not in my country lol, the opposite in fact
"Next they'll be unable to think without asking AI for their opinion." Nope we create SASU here

This is how I believe it will be too.
Like Elon and X or not, but pay attention to how the EU is only threatening X to 'censor per their demands or else'.
The EU doesn't threaten Facebook, TikTok, Reddit, YouTube.

It seems most big platforms are already dead in a sense that we only see what our government and also foreign governments allow us to see.
