If need to search the clear web I'd recommend duckduckgo or startpage.

Although if you would like to get google results without dealing with captchas or having it linked to you. You could rent an njalla vps or use a server you've compromised to host a whoogle instance. Whoogle allows you to host your own instance of Google with nice to have features like disabled javascript and etc.

Whoogle can be a nice option if are willing to invest a little money each month into your sanity while trying to search the web from a Tor connection. If your Whoogle instance encounters captchas or you don't want to expose your IP address to whoogle, you can get a cheap rotating residential proxy and configure Whoogle to use it. So each google search appears to originate from a different residential IP.

For searching for onion sites. I would use whichever search engines are mentioned on dark.fail.
