Is the universe really random?

I agree, because it's not by chance in my opinion, because everything can be counted

Fuck, I want to get into this discussion, but I don't think it's worth the effort.. who am I trying to prove to anyway.

Genuine randomness, no, it doesn't exist. Predictable , if you knew most the variables and/or could see the past.

There are pseudo random number generation (PRNG) algorithms like the mersenne twister which can be used to simulate randomness on a computer. In a physics engine, if a glass pane is shattered on the ground its shards scatter in a seemingly random way but in reality it is predictable and you are able to predetermine the spread if you have a computer program which has knowledge of all the present variables and the functions in which they are applied.

Most people agree that this is not true for real life because of entropy, but some theories like chaos theory suggest that it is possible that the reality is that there are too many variables for us to account for, and that everything is in fact deterministic.

What do you guys think?

Good question! You're correct that chaos theory tells us that its technically predictable, but practically not.

However, quantum mechanics is fundamentally non-deterministic. On a tiny scale, like atoms and particles, things are "really" random. We can't know everything about a particle at one time.

For example;
a particle's position and speed,
angular momentum and angular position,
energy and time
these are called conjugate variable

It's mathematically proven that the uncertainty you get when measuring these pairs of properties of a particle in inheritly random, even if we were to know every property of every particle in the universe leading up to that point!
