there are several ways, they may have their public data in a hidden directory, for that you can do a directory scan, or if they have a section to enter data, try sql injection

Maybe don't shit where you eat. You're probably going to be on a shortlist of people who hacked the DB - in my school the num of people who were techy enthusiasts was less than 10 people. And teachers KNEW.

Lookup tutorials on SQL injection, even webscrapping depending on the site.
You can also look into credential reuse, and try to log as someone who has access to backup the databse, or at least view it.
