it's gonna suck because - at least at first - AI is really going to represent a regression in technology. You already are seeing it with things like commercials where major companies are putting out ads with lower production values than they used but also much cheaper due to not having to pay for voiceover artists, graphic designers, cgi, etc. It's pretty jolting and almost puzzling to watch. There's also a network effect where as long as every other company is doing it no single company suffer a hit to their reputation. Imagine opening up the Wall St Journal and finding nothing but articles written at a 4th grade reading level. Movies in 2025 will all look like movies from 2005 at 1/2 the quality and 1/10th the cost. Hopefully one day the pendulum will swing the other way and AI talent will surpass that of humans but might have to go through 20 years of shittiness before that happens. For now, it's a way to make passable content for cheap.

I saw a video of Tesla's AI robot on the factory floor. It's still very basic, moving batteries from a bin to another bin.
My thinking is 3 years before AGI and 5 years before Terminator 2.

Depends what you mean by taking over. It will surely have a huge impact on our society, social interactions, job markets and the way we see the world. Is it gonna start killing us and actually seizing power? Nah not gonna happen

In my opinion, it'll never take over, most jobs/professions or literally anything else will probably always require at least some human input for whatever you're doing to succeed.

What was the percent of unemployment during the great depression? 15% 20%?
It doesn't take everyone losing their job before things collapse.

It’s hard to say when AI might "take over" because opinions vary a lot. Some experts think we’ll see major advancements in the next ten years, while others believe it could take much longer. A complete takeover seems unlikely, though; instead, we’re more likely to see AI working alongside humans, helping us out in various ways.
