If you plan just play games just get a console and trade games with people, if you plan to use it for something else just get a pc, there are often great deals on used ones in sites like ebay etc., if you have a lot of money and want to flex get a handheld pc.

Why don't you try to get a console instead?

You should get one, they are really cool. In the modding scene, people have managed to make handheld versions of consoles too through cutting the motherboard (PS1, PS2, Wii, etc).
