I 100% agree with you; emotions are the best vector to attack. I imagine hacktivists struggle with this. Emotions are why social engineering works so well and is the best method to attack a company. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for this; you'll have to separate yourself from the situation and use logic and critical thinking. Emotions can come from anywhere, whether it's from personal beliefs or in the heat of the moment. For instance, I once knew someone I thought to be unaffected by emotions; they really didn't care what was said in the Shoutbox. One day, other users were making fun of a religion, and that user completely lost it, saying they were from this country and that the forum was full of racists. Think about that, because of their beliefs and wanting to defend them, a high-profile user just shared where they were from. This single interaction pointed out an anomaly: by talking shit about their religion, you could bypass the emotional firewall. Emotions are the hardest OpSec vectors to fix.
