Cities also have lots of things pulling people apart. Rural areas have more closeness between neighbors that cities take away.
Cities can build community through shared interests rather than just geography though. Urban bonds stem from values rather than default proximity.
Values still arise through lived experience. City friends come and go, but rural roots run deep. Urban bonds can’t replace lifelong kinship.
That’s a fair critique, urban connections and commitments perhaps lack the longevity of rural ones but cities offer more ways to find your tribe. Sure, cities have built-in social networks. But nothing compares to multi-generational rural community. City friends flit in and out of your life.

It's good to operate on both for a while, I was in the countryside for awhile and being that far out eventually did my head in

Countryside with a short ride to a city. Like, being 15 minutes away where it's completely silent but no real issue to get back if you needed to.
