Depends on use case. Also depends on if you're already a linux user or not. If you aren't, maybe start with Mint.

For pentesting, you can pretty much get all the tools in distros that have them pre-installed, Kali is probably good enough.

exactly, it really depends, if want something already with everything pre install or you using now you can just install what you want.

Kali is Debian based, so most tolls will be available. really not hard to install stuff.

Kali should be all you need, comes with a few pentest tools preinstalled. Ive heard parrot is ok too.

Don't forget is linux going to be your daily, if so, then I would start with a base EUC system like Debian, mint, Ubuntu, Arch, then add the tools you want on top. No point going full hardcore with running a security OS out of the box, if you not going to use the tools all day everyday.
