VPNs are only important if you're doing anything sketchy. If you are considering a VPN, make sure the provider doesn't sell your information and or provide information if authorities come to them.

Mullvad is known to be a good provider, especially since you can buy it w/ crypto and even cash (believe it or not). Avoid free VPNs, since they're free because you're the product. Consider multi-hop VPNs. Refrain from NordVPN or popular services since chances are they will provide your information.

In general though, if you're just a normal user and want to look at shit you're fine. If you think anything (like a link) is sketchy use a public proxy site and see what happens. Also look at its redirects. Try to avoid using the same browser your personal life is on (no same cookies, no autofill, etc) and keep everything isolated. VPNs are good though regardless.

how do ppl feel about protonvpn? ik free ones usually arent super safe, but i thought proton was more reputable
