I think I have made my disliking of Telegram in the shoutbox well known at this point.

This has me wonder though, what really is a good chat app?

Why do we mostly use Telegram here despite it's very apparent flaws?

The people are there though. It has a community, unlike some of the other platforms out there.

The no E2EE is annoying but requiring a phone number is just one of those things. If you want something that doesn't require a phone number most others are just really barebones, one service that doesn't use a phone number is session, (though I haven't really used it) I've heard it's one of the best that don't require a number

I think because it has a very large community they don't emphasize its flaws, telegram is still a good option, so they don't see the need to switch platforms.
