Shakeeb Ahmed, a former Amazon security engineer, has been sentenced to three years in prison for hacking two cryptocurrency exchanges in July 2022. He stole over $12 million. Ahmed also has to serve three years of supervised release and give back $12.3 million. He used his skills to manipulate a smart contract and hack the exchanges. Ahmed pleaded guilty to one count of computer fraud in December and could have faced up to five years in prison. This is the first time someone has been convicted for hacking a smart contract. The hack involved Ahmed tricking one exchange into overcharging users by $9 million. He then took most of the money but offered to return some if they didn't involve the police.

There is a problem with smart contracts if they can be hacked and manipulated.

What a fucking moron. You got away with 12 million just stash it somewhere, why would you even go contact the victim and trust them. It's like robbing someone and offering to give back some of the money if he doesn't call the police. Was never going to happen. What an idiot.
