Using Telegram Anonymously (untraceable + no phone number required) - [Free Guide]

WARNING BEFORE YOU READ:

Telegram cooperates with law enforcement, doesn't provide end-to-end encryption by default, and is NOT recommended as a secure messaging platform. It is safest to assume that glowniggers can read every single message you send with Telegram and know exactly who you are if you used your phone to register.

This guide is tailored towards people who absolutely need to use Telegram anyway, either to connect with people who refuse to use anything else, or need to create multiple accounts for other purposes, but want to do so anonymously and securely with accounts that cannot be traced back to their real identity or location in any way:

[hide cost = 0]Despite being one of the most used messaging applications in the world, creating a Telegram account anonymously is nearly impossible. Not only do you need a phone number to register, but you also need an actual phone, since Telegram doesn't allow registrations on desktop. Usually what happens is that Telegram prevents you from creating an account by showing you a nonsensical message like "Verification code sent to your other devices" (which you obviously don't have) after you put in the phone number you purchased from an SMS service or similar, and even in the extremely rare cases in which it did work in the past, people have reported that their account gets suspended less than a day after creation. Running Android in a virtual machine isn't an option either since Telegram is programmed to detect whether it's running inside virtualization software and likely blocks any attempt at account creation that way. It should go without saying that dealing with Telegram is a massive headache for those who require proper OPSEC... :/

https://i.ibb.co/BHZXjRDb/glowie.jpg

So what's the solution? On paper, it's quite simple; you let someone else create the account for you. However, the details are rather convoluted, so I'm here to guide you through everything.

First of all, you need to either run Qubes or another privacy-respecting Linux distro (without proprietary software) as your host OS and then use a Whonix virtual machine, preferably one that you've never used Telegram in. Please note that Telegram detects your virtualization software and may deem one more suspicious than the other, although it's currently unknown whether this actually matters.

You can skip the following section if you're already familiar with Whonix.

Download for your platform: http://www.dds6qkxpwdeubwucdiaord2xgbbey...i/Download

Note for KVM and VirtualBox:
Due to the numerous changes and unfortunate switch to Wayland in the recent Whonix 18 release, a bunch of applications are either no longer working as intended or not working at all (Qubes shouldn't be affected by most changes since it doesn't support Wayland). You can still try out the latest release and see if it works, but it's not something I can guarantee will go smoothly. Therefore I recommend to use the latest Whonix 17 release for now, as it will not only work better but also reduce your fingerprint since most people haven't switched to Whonix 18 yet. This advice may however no longer apply if you're reading this further into the future.

Whonix 17 for KVM: http://www.dds6qkxpwdeubwucdiaord2xgbbey.../17.4.4.6/

Whonix 17 for VirtualBox: http://www.dds6qkxpwdeubwucdiaord2xgbbey.../17.4.4.6/

Whonix is an operating system that consists of two VMs (Gateway and Workstation) which force all of your connections through Tor, where the Gateway does the routing and the Workstation runs your browser and applications. The Workstation itself isn't aware of your real IP address, so it's impossible for your IP to leak even if a malicious application inside the Workstation tries to figure it out (VM escape is technically possible, but that's way beyond the scope of this guide). For now you simply need to run "sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade" inside both VMs and restart (during boot either choose "PERSISTENT Mode | SYSMAINT Session" or "REMOVE user-sysmaint-split", though I'd honestly recommend the removal option if you want to avoid further headaches and know what you're doing).

This isn't meant to be a Whonix guide (I might make a separate one in the future if the demand exists), so please refer to their official documentation if you run into any further problems: http://www.dds6qkxpwdeubwucdiaord2xgbbey...umentation

Next up you need a so-called "tdata" folder, which is a folder that contains information about a registered Telegram account and will be used to instantly log you in.

Where do you get one? Well, you have to buy one, and here's where things could get difficult and may not always work. Unfortunately, most of the services I could find that sell TDATA are somewhat sketchy, hence why I don't want to fully vouch for any of them (and even if I did, they may not even exist anymore by the time you're reading this). The service I always used in the past to obtain my TDATA (which was still sketchy and full of problems, mind you) shut down this month, and they even took my balance with them! So although I was able to successfully get an anonymous Telegram account using this method, I was nonetheless scammed out of some of my money afterwards (it wasn't a lot, but it still sucks). This is why I have to put another massive warning here:

WARNING!!! YOU COULD GET SCAMMED BY ANY WEBSITE OR SELLER!!!
Please only proceed if you're willing to take a small monetary risk!

My recommendations on how to proceed would be:
  • Do your own research about websites and/or independent TDATA sellers.
  • Keep all of your activity inside Whonix.
  • Run your own Monero node inside Whonix for maximum privacy.
  • Only ever pay with cryptocurrency, preferably Monero.
  • Do NOT use other crypto unless you know what you're doing and how to make it untraceable.
  • Always use the smallest amount of money possible to test out the service first.

The website I've personally managed to successfully buy TDATA from a few days ago is https://grizzlysms.com/ (thank you @paw for the recommendation <3). The site allows you to create an account anonymously and also lets you add balance to your account with XMR if you use the "Cryptomus" option. The minimum amount you can pay is $3, which is what I would recommend as it's more than enough for a Telegram account.

Please note that this is merely a suggestion and an example, not an advertisement. These kinds of sites could randomly scam you and also come and go at any time, so that specific site may not exist or work anymore if you're reading this in the future. I highly encourage you to do your own research first about other sites, both to minimize monetary risk and so you can decide for yourself who you want to trust and who to avoid.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Apparently that specific site stopped selling tdata? I couldn't find the option anymore and I'm not sure if this is temporary. Looks like the very thing I've warned about may have already happened and it's time to search for alternatives. Didn't expect them to bail out so soon, but that's just how it goes with those sites. This is exactly why I urge you to do your own research.

A few other recommendations I have (applies to all sites of this kind):
  • Make sure you have proof of payment. If your balance doesn't increase you will at least have proof, and maybe they will feel compelled to help you out if you contact them as quickly as possible.
  • Check that whatever you're purchasing also actually has "TDATA" in the name.
  • If you do end up receiving the data you purchased I would advise you to record the entire process from account purchase to activation via OBS Studio or similar.

If you get scammed by any such sites, please put the blame on the seller and/or the website, not on me or anyone else. The scene is constantly changing and it is unfortunately your responsibility to do your own research and figure out who's legitimate and who isn't, as is the case with many services. I hope I've given out enough warnings to make it clear that purchasing Telegram accounts can be sketchy and that most of these sites don't have the best nor the longest track record, and like I mentioned, I was scammed out of some crypto myself by a "reliable" site already. It is, however, the only actually untraceable way to create and use Telegram accounts that has ever worked for me.

Ok, let's say you've actually received what you purchased. You should have gotten a folder named "tdata" and maybe also a text file with a password. Many sellers and sites don't actually tell you what to do next (or have terrible instructions that sometimes don't even work at all), so I'm here to help you out with that.

First, download the latest version of Telegram from their site (not from your package manager):
https://telegram.org/dl/desktop/linux

Unpack it and go into the "Telegram" directory. Don't run the program yet.

Now create a new folder in there and name it "TelegramForcePortable".

Put the "tdata" folder you received into the TelegramForcePortable folder.

These next few steps are optional and complicated. They may not actually make a difference, but I'd still recommend you to perform them:

  1. Run "sudo apt install geoip-bin"
  2. Run "curl.anondist-orig -s icanhazip.com | xargs -t geoiplookup" a few times until the output stops changing.
  3. You will be shown the country and IP which the Gateway is currently using as the default exit node for connections which aren't stream isolated. This includes connections Telegram will make.
  4. If the country doesn't correspond to the location the account was registered in, run "sudo systemctl restart tor@default.service" in the Whonix Gateway and wait ~10 seconds.
  5. Repeat until your IP changes to the desired country.

If you purchased a Telegram account registered in Sweden for example, I find it better to first connect it to a Swedish IP address. The hope here is to prevent Telegram from instantly flagging your account as suspicious or banning you during the first login, although I have no idea if this actually does anything, I'm just going by gut feeling here. How Telegram's servers actually work is unknown.

If you want to be really safe and ensure that they don't ban your account due to Tor usage you could also run Telegram through a paid proxy inside Whonix, but it's not strictly necessary (at least from my experience).

Now you can finally run the "Telegram" executable for the first time. If everything went well, you should be logged into your account automatically.

The first thing you need to do is go to "Settings > Privacy & Security > Active sessions" and log out/terminate all previous sessions that may exist, except for the current one. Those sessions were used by the person who registered the account and you obviously don't want them to have access anymore, although this is just a temporary solution. More on this in the next section.

Then you have to go to "Settings > Privacy & Security > Two-Step Verification" and change the password to a new one. The old password should be provided in a text file upon purchase. If there is no password, then you can simply set a new one yourself.

There's one more thing you should absolutely do, which is a procedure to fully restrict access to any other individuals who may still possess or acquire the tdata folder you bought. For example, if the seller wanted to he could take the tdata folder he sold to you and still use it to instantly log into your account, or even sell access to someone else. This could be used to steal your info and even impersonate you, which you definitely don't want to happen.

To prevent such an attack, you first need to create a new Telegram folder with a different name, which has the exact same structure as the previous one except that you don't put in any tdata folder this time.

So once again:

  • Create a new folder, e.g. "TG_new" in your home directory.
  • Copy the Telegram archive into it (from https://telegram.org/dl/desktop/linux), unpack it, and go into the "Telegram" folder.
  • Now create a new folder in there and name it "TelegramForcePortable", just like before.
  • However, this time you don't put any tdata folder inside! Instead, you want Telegram itself to generate a new tdata folder for you. This will make access through the old tdata folder impossible.

  1. First, run the Telegram executable from your first Telegram folder (TG1) if it's not already running (e.g. in my case /home/user/TG/Telegram/Telegram).
  2. Then run the second Telegram executable from your new Telegram folder (TG2) (e.g. /home/user/TG_new/Telegram/Telegram).
  3. You will now have two separate instances of Telegram running simultaneously, one where you're already logged in (TG1) and another where you have to log in (TG2).
  4. Copy the phone number from the Settings in TG1 and insert it into TG2.
  5. If you're being prompted for your password insert it into TG2 as well.
  6. You should now have received a code in TG1. Copy it and insert it into TG2.
  7. Now you should be logged into your account on both TG1 and TG2 at the same time.
  8. In TG1 you will be asked if it's really you who logged into your account, click on "Yes, it's me".
  9. Next, in TG2 you need to go to "Settings > Privacy & Security > Active sessions" and log out/terminate all sessions.

Note: The last step may not work immediately and Telegram will likely give you a warning about not being able to terminate sessions on new devices. You will have to wait around 24 to 48 hours before it becomes possible. Just keep trying until it works.

After you've successfully terminated all sessions in TG2, you should now be safe! If you're no longer logged in when opening TG1, it means that everything has worked as it should. To really make sure, you could optionally create yet another new Telegram folder and insert the old tdata folder you downloaded to simulate the attacker's perspective, and you will see that logging in will no longer be possible.

You can now safely delete the old TG1 folder if you want (e.g. /home/user/TG). From now on, you should only run the Telegram executable from your new TG2 folder (e.g. /home/user/TG_new).

And that's it! You should now be able to use your Telegram account without any issues, which is fully anonymous and untraceable from a technical standpoint. I would recommend to not perform too many activities with it in the first few days so you don't automatically get flagged for suspicious activity, but other than that, you can use it however you like. Beyond this point it also shouldn't matter which Tor exit node is being used to connect to Telegram. I've been able to connect with completely random exit nodes for months and Telegram doesn't seem to care. :P

Good luck, I hope this method will work for you too!

This was my first guide, so any feedback would be appreciated! And also feel free to message me if you have any questions, or even if you just want to talk casually about other topics.

Thx for reading〜 <3

Yes this has been tested multiple times and it does work, but I have no idea why you need to pay credits to unlock it. This was meant to be a free guide that you unlock by replying, but almost every thread on BF that worked like that now needs credits as well, even the threads in the Giveaways & Freebies section. I think this is just a bug that will hopefully be fixed soon.

I'm really sorry about this. There's nothing I can do about it for now because I can't even edit the thread if I wanted to... :(

No, you don't need any phone number, just like the title says. You don't even need a phone, the only device you need is a computer.
