For messaging i dont think it ever was secure, but their data storages cna keep their reputation for a little longer. if people encrypt their files before sharing it should be good enough to keep using it for file sharing

I think it's always been partial compromised.
Why would they require your cell phone number and a smart phone to sign up if they care about privacy?

If they cared about privacy, they would have a server on TOR and allow signup from any device.

i doubt that telegram fades away from all this but they're definitely going to lose a sizeable portion of their userbase
i know a few people that ditched it lately after using it for 6+ years

You can check the transparency reports of Telegram, they have shown huge peaks in data requests given to LE since he was arrested. Q4 2024 was like 10 times more than the previous 3 quarters combined.
