Having influencers post vulnerably fosters a sense of friendship. But do you think the one-sided relationships influencers form with followers could become unhealthy attachments? The attachments likely feel more reciprocal than they truly are. And over-relying on influencers for guidance probably isn't wise.
True, if used judiciously they offer community. Do you also think the nonstop curation of image influences unhealthy comparisons? Teens may fixate on unattainable perfection.
The carefully curated images set unrealistic expectations. Though couldn't that critique apply to traditional media images too? At least influencers show more humanity at times.
You make a good counterpoint. Traditional media also feeds unattainable ideals. Perhaps influencers' transparency around flaws creates more balance.
influencers are less filtered overall but they still monetize through aspiration. I wonder if the advice they give gets ignored because they just want to sell more stuff?

When you want to make money but also guide young people, it can cause conflict and make their values unclear.

Definitely a risk there. Who knows, maybe relatable influencers still provide a net positive if they encourage self-acceptance over judgment

This is worrying. Rules and standards are important when the audience is young and impressionable. Do you think regulations could help address that issue?

Regulations may help, if crafted thoughtfully. But we'd need to balance legal guidelines with creative freedoms. What do you think of educating followers to consume content critically instead?

I really like that idea. Teaching followers to think independently could amplify the positives while avoiding heavy-handed control.
