I've noticed a common trend where male protagonists are often depicted as overly shy or white knightish when around female characters. This trope has become a bit tiresome for me.

I'm looking for an anime where the male protagonist behaves in a more realistic and relatable manner around women. I'm not necessarily looking for a hyper-masculine character, just someone who represents a more balanced and authentic approach to interactions with the opposite gender - a character who isn't defined by extreme shyness or over-the-top gallantry.

Ive seen it in Space Patrol Luluco and The Devil is a Part-Timer I know its out there

Then you may enter in the realm of reality: every story, whatever it may be, is concentrated on a woman. If the main character does something, even if not as explicit, will be done because of and surrounding a woman, that is the sum up of his actions. It can be directly or indirectly, it will envolve getting some pu$$y at some point, for whatever the cost may be. That is the common rule and the few exceptions are really rare, have not seen any in particular where the guy wouldn't be depicted as an ultimate virgin and like, very afar from reality.

To name a few that are common but still fall under the virgin character rule: OP, Monster, Ashita no Joe, Gundam, etc. Only one I might think in my head that doesn't really surround a shy guy in some capacity and his inability to get action is the anime Ghost in the Shell, because the main character is also a woman (Major).

Here's a few examples of manga/anime that are mainstream and illustrate my point:

- Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, written by Yamada Kanehito, a woman.

- Dungeon Meshi, written by Ryoko Kui, a woman.

- Fullmetal Alchemist, written by Hiromu Arakawa, a woman.

- The Ancient Magus Bride, wirtten by Kore Yamazaki, a woman.


I'm sorry to say, but a lot of manga artists (and a lot of men in general...) are socially stunted and have very weird ideas about women and relationships.

It doesn't stop me from enjoying anything, especially not terribly written isekai manga as I unfortunately got an acquired taste for this terrible stuff, but it does get annoying when a manga is great except specifically for how women are written.

Oh well. Hope you'll like my recommendations !

I don't know, in woman-authored anime it's not uncommon for the male cast to not get fleshed out and only serve as plot devices/trophies for the female characters.

Of the anime you gave, I think it's most obvious in Frieren. Stark gets sidelined really hard in the later arcs and doesn't have much of a personality just beyond where the anime is currently at.

In general the state of male characters in stories written by woman may be marginally better than female characters in stories written by men, but still not great.
