i dont think this "checking if an image is AI" will really work as AI evolves. the reality is that you can no longer trust anything on the internet and you kinda have to deal with it

there's some solace to be found in the fact that development has kinda peaked. the meme making rounds currently is that the generative forms of AI that have risen to prevalence are actually nothing more than large databases. that means there will always be weird hands, janky shadows, a vague uncannyness.

It's easy to find AI images now when you see an extra finger or the face is just wrong ... but i don't know how we will see fakes once the AI gets much smarter in the future

You can definitely tell if you look closely at the art. The fingers are off or the hands are entirely hidden (if the art is portraying a human), the lighting is off, and if there is a background - you can find some weird lines or things that straight up don't look like it belongs there. I do think AI art is getting better everyday but you can also spot it more easily if you see a lot of AI art on the regular. The scary part is when you really can't tell...

AI generated stuff on social media is always obvious, most of the AI stuff i see have the same art style or pattern, you can recognize them by just looking for more of them and see the visual pattern, the problem is the the new ones that are becoming near impossible to recognize
