Given that this is a case for accounts sale, you should have used escrow.

Moreover, there is no way to verify the validity of the accounts you shared with @John now, which is more of a reason escrow should be used while dealing with accounts.

If you want @John to pay for the lines, you have to use on-site escrow. If the lines are bad, @John can simply raise a dispute instead of finalizing, which will eventually initiate a refund.
