So today on Friday 26th of July, I, nxe, have had the wonderful idea of dualbooting my expensive laptop with Fedora as I was bored of Windows yet wanted to keep it, because it has been my main operating system for years.

So I went on youtube, followed a tutorial step by step and managed to install fedora! However, later it was explained to me that instead of giving it partial space of my disk, I gave fedora the entire disk. Basically I have removed all of the existing files from my computer including my now gone Windows 11.

Never ever would I thought how big of a disaster this is for me, mentally. I think I am going through an episode of depression, this is the 2nd worst mistake of my life! (Right after leaving my ex partner.)

Pro tip: DO NOT fuck with dualbooting, it RUINED my life.

Okay, joking aside, if you haven't done any low-level operations on your disk, you can recover all lost data using paid software. Unfortunately I don't know how these programs work, so you'll have to research and find out on your own. However, if you have performed low-level transactions, even the FBI will not be able to retrieve any data from that computer. This seems like the second biggest mistake of your life; Believe me, my top 10 is even worse. I'm laughing at the computer right now, but please don't take it personally. Think of it this way: Something good has to step aside for something better to emerge. You may have lost photos and videos on your computer; I believe these are more than just photos and videos; they were memories. But better memories will come. Even if I tell you not to be sad, I know you will be sad. But remember, time heals everything. Everything passes eventually. You will forget this, just as you forget the toys you broke in your childhood and the dreams you had. I hope I reassured you.

What exactly does this mean, you wrote over your data or something? You should always keep backups

Unless the data was overwritten, you can still recover it; there are plenty of tools to do so.

Any idea on a decent tool? I'm trying to recover some images from earlier this year, but im thinking it might be a pointless endeavour
