The GrapheneOS project aims to create a secure and private open source OS for smartphones, but some disagree with some of its defaults and practices.

What is your opinion on a project that is aimed at people who dislike big tech but is only available on google hardware?

they seem pretty trustworthy, and if you look it up they are actually expanding beyond pixels soon.

when you see the conflict they have between France and the media manipulation around this, pretty sure it's not a honeypot.

to be more precise, it targets people who are seeking to regain their control and privacy over their devices, its running on google hardware because they are the least bad option compare to any other OEMs, you do not have to pay them directly, buy a refurbished one.

I never asked this question, thanks for doing it, considering their public communication it could be both.

Hardware security and long-term updates matter more than brand purity though I’d love to see viable non-Google options reach the same standard.

GrapheneOS has strong principles, but being limited to Google hardware can feel contradictory. That said, Pixels are well-documented and secure at the hardware level, so it’s a pragmatic compromise even if it doesn’t fully escape big tech.
