Cannot see China surpassing the US soon. They have shit loads of internal economic problems, plus an aging population. Soon the average age in China will 50. Unless of course they go the known historical course of "solving" problems by going to war..

As a person who was born in Taiwan, I do hope China will be better,but there are too many questions of China,China will not become so terrifyingly powerful in a short period of time or even able to launch an absolute challenge to the USA 
But in the future,everything is uncertain
