Ghost in the shell the movie is absolutely a masterpiece, it touches a lot of philosophical questions like: "What is 'I', when I'm 'I'?" You see that back in Motoko questioning her existence, doubting her one existence because she's android. What defines a life form? The brain we have? The information we have? Great thought provoking anime, I think I enjoyed it more than the second movie (innocence) because the movie was balanced between philosophy and action. While the second movie was also very much great and very nice (especially ben batou starts to fight the doll army, best action part). But sometimes in the second movie they were just throwing too much with quotes which resulted in me pausing the movie several times, searching the quotes to look for their deeper meaning. So yes, its a great movie for sure.

The series however are even more of a master piece, especially Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, holy God that was a masterpiece. You will never get a cyberpunk thriller like that show, the Laughing man is probably one of the most interesting plots in anime, of course altogether with the Individual Eleven plot. I have rewatched that anime so many times. I advice everyone here to watch it.

The TV version of 'stand alone complex' is also very good for animation
