well i came by this news like last month and yes, researchers are surely true on it but it isnt confirmed if they really are, not to mention it secured more than 5mil+ in downloads

Yeah, not too surprised.
Even if it weren't disclosed that this was a botnet, this "free" service is most likely saving all your browsing data for advertisers.
Something's gotta pay for those servers, y'know
