Exploding pagers: the tech?

So there were explosives, triggered by heat.
But how were the batteries triggeren?
Hook in the pages OS? Of a standa alone receiver?
First one seems more logical to me but im way more difficult since you need an updated custom firmware.
Or something else?

They probably hijacked the supply chain and replaced them with infected pagers.

Just like highly sophisticated malware attacks occur.

Supply Chain attacks are wild.

It was probably bombs just being planted during production or somewhere along the way.

It's surprisingly easy to make it trigger at a set time, Israel probably did something similar to what al-Qaeda did a while back

Also, it wasn't exactly a supply chain "attack", the company that makes those pagers sells them in bulk and anyone can resell them anywhere.
