In late 2021, email address and plain text password pairs from the rap mixtape website DatPiff appeared for sale on a popular hacking forum. The data allegedly dated back to an earlier breach and in total, contained almost 7.5M email addresses and cracked password pairs. The original data source allegedly contained usernames, security questions and answers and passwords stored as MD5 hashes with a static salt.
Compromised data: Email addresses, Passwords, Security questions and answers, Usernames

DatPiff, launched in 2005 by Marcus Frasier, was the go-to spot for free mixtapes. It was an online platform where artists, especially in hip-hop and rap, could share their music with the world.
You could stream and download mixtapes for free, especially those sponsored. Registered users received a few extra free downloads for non-sponsored content, while premium users had unlimited access.
DatPiff’s interface was super easy to use and showed a wide range of mixtapes from both new and established artists. They also had apps for iOS, Android, and other mobile devices, so you could listen to music anytime, anywhere.
In recent years, DatPiff was making changes to keep up with the changing digital landscape. They partnered with Archive.org to preserve their huge collection of mixtapes and make sure they were always available.
