So I am curious to know. Is cryptocurrency transactions within the United States actually untraceable or as private as they say it is? Say I buy or sell X item from the web, can the federal government trace my transaction to and/or from the seller?

If it has a public blockchain then it can be tracked. If you use exchanges it can be tracked.

Monero is the only coin that seems safe from tracking. If you pay for it with a credit card or anything linked to you easily then it could lead back to you.

Also, if you are buying and selling things other than information, you'd need to come up with a way to receive the items without revealing a property that you own. You'd benefit from hiring someone who is chill with receiving packages for you.
