I devoted a certain part of my life to this area of activity (development and modification of firmware for code grabbers in the form factor of car alarm key fobs, as well as the “long arm”).

I own latest HackRf to be honest, there is quite a steep learning curve, unless you know about the frequencies, conversions, bands, antennas etc, this will be pretty useless.
To start with try downloading Dragon OS.
It has pre installed SDR softwares and could be a good start

use rolljam for keyfob hacking, HackRF is way way more powerful.
